About This Painting: Santa and the elves kick back and enjoy the sunshine, But it is a new year and time to get in shape for Christmas 2012. All those cookies have added a few pounds so a little muscle pumping on the beach is needed.

This is a 5x7 oil painting and painting it Alla Prima with so many figures was very difficult.

This adorable little guy is Colt McCoy. 

He belongs to my friend, and next door neighbor, Tally. 

Colt was born on May10, 2010 to Irish Linen, 

a premium Belgian Warmblood mare.

At the 2010 annual inspection, the Keuring, he was 

rated number two in the United States, 

missing the number one spot by only one point! 

He's much larger now and I love to see this gorgeous
horse running around in his pasture!

I have been off for about a week now and finally got some time in front of my easel using some of my new shiny art supplies, was really rusty when I started but started to warmup near the end of this one. One of my favorite thrift store finds is this little green vase, not very practical as it is really small and it was hand-made so it isn't very symmetrical either but it is a pleasure to paint.

Merry Christmas! The last painting of this year is situated in The Hague, the same city where I now have my solo show at the ROI.

Tram Platform shows a young girl standing on a platform waiting for her tram to show up. She's holding her cell phone, but she's looking up at something behind the viewer. I don't usually paint my figures like this, but it sure adds something extra here.

Through the window of the tram we see another girl playing with her phone as well. I couldn't paint a scene like this just a few years ago. It seems like we now spend every free moment with our phones. We grew so attached to it. The trams used to be ad free too.

In january I'm picking up my daily painting practice again. You can expect a small painting almost every day. I'm also planning on publishing more articles on this blog about my philosophies on art and life or society in general. For now I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This was a commissioned painting that was completed this week just in time for christmas. The buyer had it painted for his wife. I think it's safe to post it today  ;-)

It's slightly blurry because it did not fit in my scanner and I was too lazy to use a tripod. It's still very close to accurate.

WINTER PORCH
