Premiere Cupcake

chocolate chip cupcake acrylic painting
8" x 8" daily acrylic painting
surface - stretched canvas

Thanks to my friend Pamela's photo I was able to paint another cupcake. I frequently forget my camera.
I usually fill up more space on my surface but I wanted to try a different background. When I stepped back from the painting it looked like the cupcake was on a stage for it's premiere.

These are areas are rich in tradition and in receipes handed down for generations.
Many delightful memories of sitting on the beach or in the back yard peeling "Key West Pinks".

Everyone knows that the famous "Key West Pinks" are the most celebrated shrimp, delicate and delicious a real tradition during the winter holidays.

I think I have seen more wedding dresses in the windows of cleaning establishments in small towns than on brides.  This one in Narberth caught my eye as some departing customers were reflected in the window.

ABSTRACT and ANOTHER TASTY RECIPE by OLGA WAGNER

Way too much on my plate lately! Work is crazy busy which doesn't give me too much time to get into the studio. This weekend is already scheduled to the max. Between the Art Festifall in Chapel Hill and setup for Equestrian Special Olympics in Raleigh I feel a bit overextended... But, that is life and I am lucky to be able to do all these things!

This painting is VERY different from my usual work. As an artist and a person, I always try to stretch my boundaries and try new endeavors. I believe that all my work with palette knifes tough me to be much less afraid of not getting the the likeness just right and let become much looser in my painting.

This painting still has an Animal presence...Can you spot it?...Hint: Closeup is in the 3rd image

To be named - I need to sleep on it...

I had to share another great recipe that I found extremely easy and absolutely YUMMY! I LOVE to eat great food, but I don't care for spending too much time the Kitchen. My life is way too hectic as it is...Also, my pantry (or whatever you would like to call it) is rather pathetic, and thus I always look for recipes with the least ingredients...

This creation is from the kitchen of Emeril Lagasse and only had a total pf 6 ingredients (including salt and paper)... I ended up adding some lemon juice and lemon rind to it for an added kick.

Still life, limited brush strokes challenge by Marion Hedger

This painting was in response to a weekly challenge on dailypaintworks.com. The challenge was to assemble 2 to 3 items into a still life arrangement and calculate the minimum number of brushstrokes required for the painting.
Blue vase, bowl and pear still life limited brushstroke challenge
A4 size, oil on canvas board
Contact me about this or other paintings HERE
I set up the still life on a glass sheet over a dark red cloth to see if I could capture some reflections and then illuminated it with a flood light on the right. I drew in the design with a watercolour pencil, indicating the large masses. I calculated I needed a minimum of 32 brushstokes to create the painting.

I had two practice runs on scrap cardboad coated in gesso before committing to the canvas baord. This practice helped me to find out how to manipulate the brush to get the long gestural strokes in one pass and what thickness of paint to use. With my first effort, I stopped counting my strokes after about 50 LOL. My second effort was more successful as I realised I had to thin the paint a little so that it would flow more easily. When I moved onto the canvas board the surface was much easier to handle and I had ALMOST finished at 32 strokes but couldn't resist some fiddling. So I used about 40 strokes to get this far. I mainly used a large No.10 brush which certainly helps with the no fiddling rule!

Gourds Still Life by Dave Froude

Title: Gourds
Medium: Oil on 11 x 14 wood panel

Here they are finalized a few of my favorite things to paint, brass, gourds and ceramic. Worked a bit on the gourds and foreground this morning, and created a lot more contrast. I like the nice painterly effect I managed to pull of with this one. Which is quite a departure from the first time I picked up a brush again a few years ago, where I was more focused on creating a very tightly rendered painting, thankfully I got away from that and in turn things are looking a lot more realistic, funny that.

Not sure if this is for sale at the moment as I have a juried show to enter and still in the process of making my selections.

Enjoy

_______
I'm an artist from Verona, Italy.
I paint mainly in watercolor, a medium that I love for its freshness and versatility.
In my paintings I transfer the emotions and the feelings aroused by the life around me.
Among my favorite subjects you can find people and portraits, landscapes of cities and countryside, trees, flowers and animals.
My observation of reality at first goes through my camera lens, then continues in the contemplation of the colors and shapes, and finally expresses itself in the play of the watercolor on the paper.

The inspiration for this painting was a photograph that my very talented friend, Zoe Murphy, shot. I saw it on her Facebook page and asked permission to use it as reference for a paintingHer photo is just below...I began the painting...at first I was pleased with what was emerging on the canvas but as I continued to paint, I felt I was messing it all up....yup, I was.  I took the painting off my easel and placed it on the floor about 8 feet away and began studying it.  I was not pleased at all with my progress. I decided to turn the painting around and voila!....it seemed to come together magically. That's when I painted in the moon, signed it and called it a day.....

On another note....for my subscribers who are from the NY Capital Region. The Arts District on Beekman Street in Saratoga Springs, NY is celebrating American Craft Week Saturday, October 8, from 10-5 pm. My studio will most likely be open until 7.

There's an open invitation to artists and crafters to set up a table to display and sell your work. There is no charge. There was a great response to last year's celebration...

Today's Quotation: "When you're in doubt, be still, and wait; when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage. So long as mists envelop you, be still; be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists - as it surely will. Then act with courage."

LION CUBS on Canvas by OLGA WAGNER

I started on these precious little boys back in February and put them away for a few months. Few weeks ago reworked the background and once again, set it aside for a while. Last night I looked at this as it was painting hanging in my studio and decided that I was finally done with it. It is so much brighter and more airy than my first attempt... I am HAPPY!

February version - feels very COLD and DREARY.

Last night's dinner - There is nothing COLD and DREARY about this little beauty!

This must be the prettiest roast chicken that ever came out of my oven. And the best part was that it was as tasty as it looked. The recipe for this bad boy can be found here . I made a few minor modification, such as adding more garlic (can you ever have enough garlic?) and carrots.

I will be using this "Garlic-Orange-Butter' rub on my turkey this year - it was absolutely DELICIOUS.

Peter's  Piano II
A Homage to Peter Max

12 x 16 Oil Painting on Canvas
Click the Photo for My Lightbox

I did a Homage to Pater Max in the beginning of the year titled
Peter's Piano. I have to say that it is one of the most popular paintings for
this year. I did several similar, but not the same commissions, including a
very large format commission for a friend of Peter Max's, which just
thrilled me. I Check out his site www.themaxcollector.com

I thought it would be great to do another now as Peter just released
 his new isong
Check it our at the links below
You have to love him. He has works all over the place and knows
so many people and other artists. What a legacy!...and such a nice guy too! I
have listed some facts about him here that I thought were interesting.
Always learning something new! Love it!

This painting is 12 x 16, a really nice size and different from the first
 Peter's Piano at 11 x 14.
It is my impression of combined elements from five of Peter's
paintings including his self portrait. The flooring is from another as well as
the Baldwin Piano that he painted. What great colors!
Custom Floater Frames are available upon request.

This would make a great gift for a Peter Max Lover.
Thanks Peter. Love ya!
Enjoy!

LIFEGUARDS

LIFEGUARDS
8" x 6"
oil on canvas

Growing up going to the shore every summer I was a little in love with one life guard after another.  That athletic, tanned, manhood keeping everyone safe from the 'undertoad' got my rapt attention every time.  Finally, when I was 16, I was invited to the Life Guard's Ball by one of these God's of the beach.
I thought that experience, which was more of a wrestling match than a ball, had cured me of this fascination forever.  However, while thinking about this painting, I realized I actually married a swimmer who was at one time a Life Guard.

ANtique Candlestick Telephone still life

Copyright © 2011 Linda Apple
"The Old Candlestick"
  9"x 12"
oil on canvas

Sometimes I miss the old rotary phones. This one is even before my days! :)
Candlestick Phone - 1908 In the early days of the telephone, prior to the development of the rotary dial, telephone calls were operator-assisted. To place a call, you were required to pick up the telephone receiver and wait for the telephone operator to answer with "Number please?" You would then ask to be connected to the number you wished to call, and the operator would make the connection manually, by means of a switchboard.
Have a great day - and maybe CALL an old friend!
