When We Grow Up ... ? / K Witmer

6x8" oil on archival panel
This little brother and sister seem to be standing here wondering ....
"When We Grow Up .... "
...will the beaches still be this clean? Will the water still be this clear? Will the sky still be this beautiful? Can you promise us that?

Deep Forest by Kirk Witmer

"Deep Forest"
6x8" 0 Oil on archival panel

A recent museum trip to see an exhibit of the Hudson River School of artists inspired this piece.
My version may not quite compare to those of the masters, but .... practice, practice practice!

Study for landscape / K. Witmer

This is a study for an upcoming landscape.

6x8" oil on archival panel

I'm planning a landscape that will be 18x24" and these two ladies will be the focal point of that work. I intend for the landscape to be the first in a series of works that have been inspired by the 1979 movie "Tess", which had some really compelling scenery in it.

What Lies Ahead?

6x8" - Oil on Archival canvas panel

This was done from a black and white photo, so those were the only two colors I used, black and white. I believe the photo was taken back during the Great Depression of the 1930's. I'd guess the man here would probably be thinking about how he's going to find some work. Maybe this image isn't as untimely as we might think.

4 GLOBES BY PASTELIST SUSAN RODEN

4 GLOBES*
SUSAN RODEN
14"h x 8"w pastel
$495

Funny how some paintings resonate above others with an Artist.

This is one for me and always have been quite fond of it.

Such a balancing act with the elements. . . as with life.

All appears calm and orderly, but just takes one slip!

"The Carpet Dealer" by Kathryn Townsend

"The Carpet Dealer", 14 x 11, Oil on Panel
It is always difficult to take photos of the people in other countries, especially women. It helps to have a long zoom lens, and many times I took photos from our bus. But in the carpet shop, the men didn't seem to mind.

Ocean Calliope by Doreen Stopczynski

I painted this for an Under the Sea exhibit and had so much fun with it. I loved using bright colors and adding a bit of chaos to create an under water   fantasy. Acrylic on 11x14 gallery wrapped canvas $350.

This is painted from a photograph found in Behind the Scenes hosted by Celeste Bergin. Each month there are three photographs posted and the artist can choose which to paint. There are always beautiful photos at this site, but this is the first time I've painted this challenge. I painted on a larger support, which I am learning to like. I can play with the paint more and I find that a real joy.

Bottles by Dave Froude

Title: Bottles
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

So bottles it is,This started out great but quickly changed direction, when I set this one up I loved the coloured light shining through the bottles so I offset this to the right so it would show up. My light source was so close to the bottles they were heating up something fierce, but it was the only way the light would show through the bottle in the back and the red in the middle looks great. I was almost finished this one earlier today but realized I had lost the structure in some parts and had to correct it which caused some other issues but life's like that.

So on my way home from work today I stopped at the local art supply store and finally purchased Oil colours, water mixable of course can't wait to try them. wish me luck.

Til next time

The Gate Keeper - Original Watercolor by Christiane Kingsley

The Gate Keeper
Please email me  for price.

This is an original watercolor from my own reference photo of a Venetian mascarone ( a carved, stone head on the keystone of an archway). This old, stately guy has been watching the entrance of this palazzo for about five hundred years! I took the reference photo from underneath and at an angle from the mascarone, creating an unusual perspective. It is part of my Memories of Venice series. I really enjoyed every moment of working on this painting and I feel very happy about the results.

This painting is on Canson artboard with 140 lb Arches CP paper. It is 16" X 20" and painted with professional quality W&N paints. It is offered on line unframed and unmatted. It would look very nice with a 20" X24" matting and a simple metal frame with glass.

Everyone knows the Contessa is so fond of jelly.

Her donuts are so dramatic while oozes with the sticky stuff.

What can I do but strike with another jelly?

ps my fingers are sure sticky!

red onion by Ria Hills

6" x 6" daily acrylic painting
surface - hardboard panel

For the next few weeks I hope to finish an acrylic painting each day of a simple subject like this one. That's my goal at least . . wish me success.
I may sneak in a pastel somewhere but for now, because of limited time, I'll be keeping it a bit more simple by translating the subject into basic blocks of color without the detail that you may be used to seeing.
I had fun working on this painting. My favorite part is the onion skin on top. I am always amazed at what a simple block of color is capable of suggesting to the eye.

Tree Branch (Yardment) #701

It's that time of year again. The yard is in bloom. The tree in the backyard is pink and in a few days, I'll have a pink petal covered dog, floor, couch, you the idea, at least it's pretty and smells good. . . can't say that for everything Brie, the dog, brings in from the backyard.

Other News: The SAMFund has put together a new video, presenting just what The SAMFund is all about. Sam is in the video and also four young adult cancer survivor grant recipients. I'm not going to embed the video, totally up to you if it's your thing. . . no pressure. Click here to see it.

Glace's Sir Gallagher Pigdog

Graphite on Paper. Old Drawing found again.
This drawing was done before I became a painting 4 1/2 years ago.
I was just playing around with a sketch pad, and drew a protrait of my pet
Englsh Bulldog- Sir Gallager. Dumb, but so pretty that you
just had to love him. I still miss him. Since he passed away,
I have had Great Danes, Great Pyranees Mountain Dogs
and - now we have a Newfoundland- Miquelon,
named after an island off the coast of Newfoundland.
Miguelon

It was fun finding a drawing I did years ago, before I really started to
spend time painting, and it broght back such wonderful memories.

Oil Flower Studies

I have recently started using oils after joining an oil painting group each Friday. I have found that I really like the feel of painting with oils and it is fast becoming my favourite medium. I still have much to learn and so far I have only painted (not quite) alla prima.
I was hesitating how to start, and in the end decided just to go for it. Here are a couple of the flower studies that I did and are my first attempt at florals in oils.

SLEEPING ORANGE TABBY CAT by Olga Wagner

GUESS WHAT...Here is another angel deep in his slumber. Do I smell a new series in the making? Maybe... Sleeping Angels...Sleeping Innocence...Must think of a great name...

This is Puglsey, a 5 year old Devon Rex boy, whose most favorite summer-time activity is to hunt large, flying grasshoppers. He looks so innocent while dreaming of his next grasshopper victim (LOL)...

"Desert Girl" by Kathryn Townsend

"Desert Girl", 10 x 8, Oil on Panel
The expanse of countryside northwest of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco along the coast is green and fertile--not what I expected. But on the other side of the mountains we stayed in a desert camp by the dunes. It was beautiful and we hiked one day to a Berber camp about two miles away. The young girl was in the tent with her mother when we crowded in to talk. She was extremely shy.

Only one in the entire universe....and it could be yours!

I was very happy to find this beautiful fabric to use as the backdrop for my fruit. I will be using it again and again in more paintings.  I am not happy with the title I finally chose. Just couldn't come up with anything more interesting. If you'd like to email me with what you would consider a 'better' title for this piece, I might consider using it....

Geranium Bloom

I just bought half dozen geraniums for my back porch. They're everywhere right now in south Florida. They won't last long though, since once the heat cranks up, they shrivel up and die. At least, I'm confident that those that belong to me, will! I think I kill them with too much love (or over watering).  So, in the meantime, I wanted to paint some closeup views. They're such a pretty plant and they remind me of Spain, and of balconies full of geraniums so common over there. And they remind me of my Spanish mother, who loved them as well.  I think I'll paint some more.
