The Lazy Red Pear II by Torrie Smiley

The Lazy Red Pear II
6" x 6"
Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
~Sold~

I love painting pears. I have painted this composition before using different colors. I am really happy with the way this one turned out.

The Lazy Red Pear II was painted using professional artist grade acrylic paint on a gallery wrapped museum quality canvas with painted sides to allow for hanging without a frame. Painting was finished with a light coat of varnish.

This painting has sold. To see more painting currently available for purchase, visit my website gallery and my Etsy.com store.

Thank you for viewing,

from plein air to a finished oil painting

Here is another example of "progressive painting."  "Meditate"  (left) is a 10" x 10" plein air oil painting from northern New Mexico.  (currently for sale at Mt. Living Studio, Manitou Springs, CO)  I like the reference photo but I felt it needed something else so I combined  it with a photo of added some Adirondack chairs to paint "Aspen Lake" in pastel (right).  The last painting in this mini series is "My Space", a 24" x 18" oil.  I saturated the colors more and added a couple of bottles of Grolsch  beer to make the scene even more inviting.  "My Space" is currently for sale through Centennial Galleries. (Ft. Collins, CO)

Detail Milkmaid

I don't know what it is about the Milkmaid by Vermeer, I just love that painting! The lighting, composition, subject matter, it all speaks to me. He was just an amazing painter!

Not to toot my own horn, but I'm quite satisfied with my version as well. It was pretty tricky to get the painting by Vermeer straight, especially since it's so small. It's only about 1- 1.5" or 3-4 cm in heighth. The head of the Milkmaid is only one fith of an ince or half a centimeter high. So yeah, that's small! You can imagine how great it felt when I actually finished that part. Hope you enjoy this one as well!

kind regards, Gerard

Red Rose-Floral Flower Still Life Oil Painting Of A Rose by Marina Petro

"Red Rose"
Original oil painting on stretched canvas
Purchase securely at my ETSY SHOP or EMAIL me for other purchasing options.

The rose has always been valued for its beauty and fragrance. It symbolizes love. The rose was sacred to a number of goddesses. The ancient Greeks and Romans identified the rose with their goddesses of love, Aphrodite and Venus.

I think there's nothing more elegant or that expresses love more than one single red rose. This rose will stay as beautiful as it is today and enjoyed for many years to come.

Painting of the Canadian Flag, O Canada, Kim Blair

July 1 is Canada Day...  in years past it was known as Dominion Day, because it marks a significant landmark of the history of Canadian independence and  celebrates the anniversary of the confederation. In  1965 Queen Elizabeth II (the Queen of Canada) proclaimed The Maple Leaf Flag as the official flag of Canada, instead of the Union Jack (the British Flag).  There was much debate over changing the flag to be more representational of Canada... but it finally happened.  Supposedly the colours of red and white were suggested for Canada because they had been the colours of both France and England, and utilizing both colours, connected Quebec (and the French connection) with the rest of English speaking Canada, an attempt to appease both groups of Canadians and create a unified whole.

Happy Canada Day on July 1, may we stay united!

"Peaches 2" Daily Painting by Jonathan Aller

Sold
"Peaches 2"
8 x 10 in
Oil on Canvas Panel
I've painted peaches before and enjoy there textures and unique coloring throughout their surface, the way light bounces within the shape gives great chemistry to the painting.  I know its been a couple weeks since the competition ended but I just wanted to thank everyone again for supporting me and voting for me as well, I'm so blessed to have won this and cannot thank all of you again for helping me achieve my personal goal.  Thank you!
I started with no mediums just a bit of raw umber on the brush and lightly draw the placements of the peaches, you don't want to hard on the brush or your lines will get darker.  The point is to have really light lines which will make it easier to paint over with thin paints, after the drawing was completed I stated the darks using ivory black, permanent rose, and cadmium red.
Then I added the reflected lights in the pit of the peach using cadmium yellow light, ivory black, cadmium orange, titanium white, and viridian.  I am making sure in each stage I take it to a close finish at times I have to go back and change some minute things because of the value or chroma I just painted next too it which is a normal thing, the important thing is to take that section to a finish and move on.  I then added the lights using quinacridone magenta, cadmium red light, cadmium red, and titanium white.
Then I started on the second peach again starting from the darker values and moving onto the lighter values, for the darks I used ivory black, viridian, cobalt blue, cadmium yellow.  Then I started adding the middle and lighter values which were titanium white, viridian, and cadmium yellow light, with this one it was a tricky thing too paint I had to constantly be bouncing from lighter to the darker values, there were so many value shifts in that area.
Then I added the dark values of the base I used ivory black, burnt sienna, and cadmium orange.  After I took that area to a finish I started on the lighter values using cerulean blue, titanium white, burnt sienna and also took it to this area to a finish.
This is the final picture I added the background which was cerulean blue, naples yellow, and titanium white.  Overall I'm very pleased with this painting and really like how the reflected lights have some character too them,  I also missed painting this wooden board which is a frequent with some of my daily paintings.  Thanks for stopping and viewing my painting, hope you enjoyed!

Clouds formed as a whip while swirling through the night.

They snapped through the colorful layers beginning with

subtle blues to the pale greens and pinks.

Downward they spiraled to the blazing yellow and oranges

which immediately halted the swirl above the dark land.

OIL PAINTING BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK OF PINK ZINNIA IN A GLASS

PINK ZINNIA IN A GOLD RIMMED GLASS
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
$100 USD
I had a dark background on this originally and then, lightened it up because I felt it looked to harsh. As a result I had to lighten all the values on the glass. I like it much better but what a lot of work. I thought I was finished then I ended up painting the whole thing over again!
