THE HOLIDAY IS ENDING

SENTRY AT SUNSET
SUSAN E. RODEN
14"h x 10"w - 20"h x 16"w gold leaf frame

The days just roll roll bye. And with a long holiday weekend, it seemed to go by quicker than usual. Is it from too much good friends, fun and food?

I believe this painting, Sentry at Sunset is appropriate for the holiday has come to an end, as the sun sets at the end of the evening.

I do hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday.

Star Light- Outer Space Abstract Celestial Oil Painting by Marina Petro

Artist~Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA
"Star Light"
5x7 inches
Original celestial oil painting on stretched canvas
Purchase securely at my ETSY SHOP or EMAIL me for other purchasing options or inquiries

Star Light was created spontaneously from my imagination. I didn't have anything in mind when I began to place colors on the canvas. I simply began painting, following my creative instinct each moment, and this is what resulted! It's always such a great adventure and surprise when I've completed these spontaneous/intuitive works. I am happy with it and hope you enjoy viewing it as well.

I titled this piece Star Light because when I finished it what kept running through my mind was "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight." I used to say this as a child and still do.

Today's Quotation:"  Never let go of the fiery sadness called desire."

Happy Memorial Day!

I've been inspired lately by the royal poincianas in south Florida and at the same time, thinking of the Memorial Day holiday. So many have sacrified for the freedoms we enjoy. We remember them on this day.

Unity by Leslie Redhead

Unity, poured watercolor, 21x29"

I did a smaller version of this lion that I posted last month. I like how well it turned out so I wanted to go big. It is the Harmony Gate in Victoria, BC. It is a poured watercolor where I layer a resist (masking fluid) with liquid watercolor. It is always magical to see how it will turn out.

Box Canyon Three, mixed media abstract landscape by Carol Engles

5x7 watercolor with pastel and charcoal. jcengles@verizon.net or:

carolengles.artspan.com

California Abstract Artist Carol Engles

Georgia O'Keefe's pastel flowers

"Flowers for Georgia" is the pastel I painted on a  full size sheet of Canson paper  to get the hang of Georgia O'Keeffe feminine  abstract style.   I taught two pastel classes for the Loveland Museum a few weeks ago.  I've always loved her style but I have even more appreciation for it now.  It was also very freeing and fun to paint!  This class was such a hit that I will teach something similar this fall...

Musically Inclined Series by Daily Painter Bertie Brown Original Musical Motif Watercolor

Musically Inclined

original musical motif watercolor: 13 1/2"w x 10 1/2"h

Going Solo

The piano stands alone

Neither lost nor forlorn

Just a confident fellow

Black and white outside

Inside, mellow.

Its song is melodious

With high notes that soar

But can be quite odious

When notes don’t sound sure

One thing is certain

With a rising stage curtain

The piano likes to play

The solos he’s given

In a most excellent way!

Parakeet Joy Oil on Canvas by Mary Hughes

8" x 8" Oil on Canvas

I'm learning a lot from the birds I paint. I'm finding parakeets adapt to new environments and change pretty quickly though they're said to be very upset by changes in environment. Mine chatter, play, eat and more just as energetically as if they were at home. I'd like to be as adaptable, happy and easily moved....something to work on. In my recent travels I'm feeding sea gulls and getting amazing photos to work from. There will be gull paintings in the future. Also a swan that knocked on our door daily for bread will soon have his portrait painted. Right now it's back to work on some large dog portraits I hope to be able to share soon.

Cows Come Home is the 6th painting in the farm series I have been working on. All are 9x12 oil on maple panel based on old slides from the fifties. The "farm" is located in Andes NY. My parents where NYC kids when they bought it and operated it for 10 years before moving on to other adventures. From these old slides and stories it seems it was a very happy time in their life.

Bird Paintings "Little Nest" by Barbara Rudolph

"Little Nest"

Another little oil painting from my bird series, "Little Nest".  There are so many birds outside my window searching and scavenging for just the right materials to construct a place to lay their eggs.  They are natural little architects working hard to gather little leaves, spider webs, twigs and even dryer lint.  They stop periodically to take a dip in the bird bath since our weather here is going to be around 100 degrees today.  I am enjoying painting a new series of detailed still lifes in oil.  This little painting is just a fun quick one I squeezed in.  It is only 4"x4" on a canvas panel.  For more information you can contact me at:  br1fineart@cox.net

SUBDUED MORNING

A SUNRISE
SUSAN E. RODEN
4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pastel
8" square white matte, glass + gold leaf frame
$150+ $15 insured priority shipping

With a holiday weekend, so many are out having a party, yet I had to shuffle off to work. I really didn't mind. I walked to today's job, which was over a three-mile jaunt. Once setting out, I get very absorbed into my thoughts and then the time flies. Actually this is when I get my most creative thoughts for have nothing else to distract me (except for the cars whizzing bye!).

But my mood gets very somber, for I concentrate so intensely. Very similar to this pictured petite pastel. Sunrises are unlike sunsets for the colors are more subdued with the highlights at the top of the clouds. Since I love color, it takes quite a bit of patience to execute one.

And when I returned home, my husband had grilled pork ribs ready to eat - that's a party!
