Mary Hughes Oil Painting "Sliced" Plum

8" x 8" Oil on Canvas:
"Sliced"

$100.00

I like to think when I start with an idea that it will look like I've imagined but somehow elements come into play that I hadn't planned. Starting with the idea to paint fruit on a white plate in the sun I hadn't thought of how much shadow there would be indoors, but I decided to go with it rather than create more lighting from the inside. It was fun to paint the reflections and shadows that didn't develop in my imagination. This is the second painting in this mini series of 2. The first is Plum Breakfast also available. This would make a nice coupling.

The background is not black paint but a dark combination of reds, browns and blues to make up a rich reddish brown that at a distance looks black.
