The excitement of painting these butterflies brought me back to the number 1 rule in painting....ALWAYS paint what inspires you! Try it, and if it doesn't work, at least you attempted.

My inspiration for this collection was very much "jewelry-inspired." I used rich, bold, strategic colors with thick luscious palette knife strokes to enhance the tactile quality of these paintings. My intentions were that these fluttery creatures would explode off the canvas with great expression while somehow melding into the background color simultaneously. These were created as wall "jewelry" for a special nook in a home....
