Lately I've been swinging wildly from one approach to the next in my abstract painting: grid structure, overall pattern, bold strokes, and in my latest: finding freedom. Maybe it's because I'm bipolar, and used to mood swings, but a new painting is often the antidote to a previous one.
Stage 1:
I continued to work in a loose manner. I painted with a brush using acrylic directly from the tube, as well as mixtures thinned with water and gloss medium. I drew lines with brown and black, brushing them over to soften the effect. I worked over the whole canvas, letting the details and movement build in a natural way. Stage two:
