Walking in the mustard in bloom/ Promenade dans un champs de moutarde en fleur, landscape, impressionism by Dominique Amendola

Copyright by Dominique Amendola

To see a larger picture, click on the image.

Small figure walking in an immense field of yellow mustard extending to the horizon
This beautiful landscape is a common occurrence in the state of California. Here the mustard is in full bloom. That day the yellow flowers color was so intense, that it seem like some sort of unreal almost other worldly landscape.

This is painted in a impressionistic style in plein air. This is not a print. You are buying an original painting on canvas. This painting is painted with museum quality art supplies and will last several 100 years. I've sold over 200 of my original works of art online, so you can buy with confidence. Small still life, "Shred-O-Mat" 6" x 6" oil on canvas, Claudia Hammer

This was my mother's shredder from around the 1950's.   I use it every Sunday to make hash browns for my brunch.  It has five interchangeable blade discs that shred and slice.  Usually I have been painting smaller objects so on this one I had to be sure to get in the right scale.

"Winter Twilight", mixed media landscape painting by Sharon Lynn Williams

"Winter Twilight", mixed media painting, 15 x 22"

I went back into my painting that I did at the Quiller workshop, posted on November 3rd. I felt that it really lacked some 'oomph', so I went back in and added some opaques into the background, lighting up the distant mountain shape, then added some teal and orange opaques into the snow area in the front, darkened the trees in the middle, played a bit more with counterchanges in the trees, and capped it all off with a moon just coming up behind the mountains. I like it much better now.

Enjoy!

"Wine Label Oil Painting Joan Miro" by k Madison Moore

Joan Miro Wine Label Oil Painting

10 x 12 inches

Connoisseur Wine Masters Series

Joan Miro - In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for  conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeoise society, and famously declared an "assassination of painting" in favor of upsetting the visual elements of established painting.
Generally thought of as a Surrealist because of his interest in automatism and the use of sexual symbols (for example, ovoids with wavy lines emanating from them), Miró’s style was influenced in varying degrees by Surrealism. However, he rejected membership to any artistic movement in the interwar European years.
Miró was among the first artists to develop  automatic drawing as a way to undo previous established techniques in painting.MIro along with Andr'e Masson, represented the beginning of . Surrealism as an art movement. However, Miró chose not to become an official member of the Surrealists in order to be free to experiment with other artistic styles without compromising his position within the group. He pursued his own interests in the art world, ranging from automatic drawing and Surrealism, Expressionism, Color field painting.

"How did I think up my drawings and my ideas for painting? Well I'd come home to my Paris studio in Rue Blomet at night, I'd go to bed, and sometimes I hadn't any supper. I saw things, and I jotted them down in a notebook. I saw shapes on the ceiling..."

PAINTING BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK OF KILLDEER GUARDING ITS NEST

KILLDEER ON GUARD
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
$100 USD plus s/h
These little birds like to build their rock nests on gravel roads or around rocks. Their eggs are spotted black and white and blend into the surroundings so well they are really hard to see. I look for them every spring around our little lake and flag the ones on the roadside so the cars want run over them. When you get near the nests they try to lead you away by faking a broken wing and hopping away screeching.

Here in the US, we are on the cusp of our biggest shopping season ever.

I encourage you to consider original artwork as you begin making gift giving decisions. Local craft and artisan fairs, independently owned shops in your area, and online storefronts are a great starting point for locating original one of a kind gifts. All of my paintings available for purchase are listed on Etsy (returning collectors get 10% off the listed prices).

And when it comes time to send your greetings, consider ordering cards with a meaningful image like your pet's portrait or one of your favorite paintings from the Painting a Dog a Day project (visit my Imagekind shop to learn more about how easily we can coordinate this).

Directly supporting artists and artisans and spending your dollars locally is a gift itself - to the collective creative spirit and to your community's economy.

Finally, this last week I had a client regretfully release three December portrait spots - if you are interested in one, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can begin the necessary planning.

Thanks, as always, for looking at - and sharing - my artwork with your friends and family.

From the book, "ANGELS" Guardians From Heaven And Their Habitats by Marina Petro

When I completed this painting, I realized it was the angelic 'vision' I had when I was 16 years old, while walking through Central Park, in NYC very late one night with a friend. As we were walking, something made me turn around and I saw this image floating very quickly toward me...her arm, moving in a chastising gesture, directed at me. I got so scared...  started to run...  out of the park and went home where I should have been in the first place. I'm sure she was protecting me...

Quotation that goes with this image from the book:

"God speaks to each of us as he makes us
then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:
You, sent out beyond your recall, to go the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you:
beauty and terror.
Just keep going.

No feeling is final.

Don't let yourself lose me.
Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness.
Give me your hand."

~Ranier Maria Rilke

Still Life of Garlic, Fiesta Garlic, Kim Blair

Some varieties of garlic have a pinky purple tone to the papery covering that surrounds each clove and the entire bulb.  These tones can be accentuated by the surface they are places upon.  Fiesta Garlic consists of a new 'crop' of bulbs from the Italian Center Market which I positioned on a orange and red striped table cloth I have.  The angle of the lighting on my still life set-up allowed more of the reddish tones form the cloth to bounce onto the skin, intensifying the hues perceived.  This same illusion happens when you paint the human figure.
The fabric/surface that the person is posing on is often reflected onto their form creating various tints, tones and shades of skin.  Bringing out interesting nuances of colour that fire up the imagination when selecting the paint.

Fiesta Garlic fired up my imagination with the feeling of heat... the anticipation of a delicious meal... a great party with good friends, a fiesta of sorts....

9x12 inches, oil on canvas.  Please check my blog for purchase and contact information.

"Nino II"

6 X 6 Oil on Panel

Adriana and Nino came over the other day and between
the two of us we were able to get some really cute shots
of him. He's all grown up now but still has that cute look
of a puppy. Loved this one with his ears back in sweet
submission. However, he definitely has Little Man Syndrome
and I'm wondering if that paw on top of her hand isn't one
of his dominate maneuvers despite the ears.

Handpicked Original Painting by Dyanne Parker

Handpicked
16 x 20 acrylic on canvas, sides painted with scene. I remember getting hand picked roses from my husband when we were dating. He chose each one individually. They were vibrant and the reds were the deepest reds I had ever seen. They lasted longer than any roses I have ever received to this day. This boy knows how special it is to actually handpick roses for someone special. Maybe they are heading your way?

After Spring Shower (c) 2008
6" x 6" watercolor

Chinese painting is done on rice paper which is like kitchen paper towel. Controlling and mixing the right amount of water and colors in one brush stroke is the most difficult technique to achieve. Once the brush touches the paper, it can't be changed. Each type of rice paper brings its own unique challenges.

Decorated In Snow

"Decorated In Snow"

Following a fresh light snow, this schoolhouse appeared to be "decorated in snow". While painting it I recovered a long lost impulse....I felt like I wanted to go to school!

This is another scene from the mountains of the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico. I teach art here at a private boarding school and this schoolhouse is on the campus.

Autumn Watercolor, Jan Blencowe

copyrigth  2009, Jan Blencowe, Connecticut, USA

I hope you had a bountiful Thanksgiving!  It's hard to believe that Advent has begun and the Christmas season is here!

I am busy addressing holiday cards to my collectors, I'm nearly half way done and have cards going to 20 different states and 5 countries so far!!  I designed and ordered beautiful cards through www.vistaprint.com and also had two new postcard designs printed. I find that I prefer to hand out full color postcards that feature a single image of  one of my painitngs on the front and all my contact info on the back along with my website, blog, twitter and facebook info, rather than a small standard business card. The postcards have more of an impact and people tend to keep them, tack them on the fridge, etc.

I'm still working on that painting I started a couple of weeks ago. It's a 20x30 and I've been experimenting with new painting techniques.  It's slow going as I find my way and though it's gone through many revisions I am finally pleased with the direction it's going in. I hope to have a progress picture soon, but because it gets dark so early now and the angle of the sun is low the bare tree branches cast dappled shadows everywhere it's hard to get a good photo. Maybe I'll just take one in the studio!

Don't forget original art makes a wonderful gift that lasts a lifetime! Visit my website www.janblencowe.com for available paintings and my shop at Fine Art America for prints of my watercolors here
