View to Lanai Hawaii Oil Seascape by Phyllis O'Shields

View to Lanai

©PhyllisO’Shields 2010

Oil on Gallery Wrapped  Canvas  18 x 24 x 1.5 inches

My Inspiration:  Aloha -  Living in Hawaii I found some of my happiest times were painting trips to Lanai. Lanai is the most secluded island in Hawaii and also called the Pineapple Island because of the past island wide active plantations.  The only town is Lānaʻi City, a small settlement.
The peaceful atmosphere there is created because there are no traffic lights, no shopping malls, and no public transportation. Special places and beautiful views can be visited only via dirt roads
that require a four wheel vehicle.
Painting on the island involves my hiking into secluded areas carrying a back pack with all painting supplies and an easel.  This is very much like hiking in Bermuda to get up close and personal with the area you wish to paint, but well worth the effort in both places.
I usually go over via a short trip across the Auau Channel
on the Maui-Lanai Ferry, beautiful views all the way,
return on the last Ferry of the evening.

Swans on Lake Ontario

Original Oil Painting by Catherine Gillespie

Two swans feeding on Lake Ontario. Every once in a while they stretch their heads down to the lake floor, so all you can see is their bottoms in the air. So cute! They are lovely majestic animals.

Saluki by Anne Zoutsos

 Saluki - Joop - 20" x 16" watercolour

After the short legged dachshunds, I thought today a rather longer legged hound might be fun. Unlike dachshunds, salukis hunt by sight not scent and they are both very elegant and very fast! It is said that as a breed they tend to be rather aloof with strangers, so I was somewhat surprised when I went to a saluki show a couple of years ago and was met with many wagging tails and affectionate greetings. I suppose some have that 'stand-offish' temperament but clearly a lot don't!

Day 36

I was so happy to find this beautiful, ripe heirloom tomato
when I went out to the vegetable garden this morning.
This particular variety is called 'Mortgage Lifter', and
is up there as one of my favorites. It reminds me so much
of the tomatoes my mom grew when I was a child.

It was very difficult not to slice it up and have it for
lunch today, but since I was painting from life I had
to exert a little patience. Tonight this tomato is going
to be the star at our supper table!

Ruth Andre Painting-Just Whistling Dixie

If you saw the little Hereford painting from yesterday you will recognize one of these young Herefords. This painting shows two Herefords standing together, waiting for what will happen next? I kind got a kick out of the one on the left and thought she looked like she might be whistling. So the name, "Just Whistling Dixie". Taking a trip to the Double CC made for, "A Painting Day".

Sunset and Tree oil study by BECKY JOY

WARM LIGHT  6x6 oil on canvas.
To buy this painting for $100. click here.

This is all that I got done today as far as painting (a lot of errands to do today). I did some wiping off of the canvas and starting over. Some days just don't go real easily. I've been going through photos and sketches pondering what to do next for a larger painting. I haven't decided yet. Hopefully, tomorrow will bring some new ideas.

I am now offering these wrought iron display easels free with each small oil study (5x7 or 6x6) purchases. The edges will be finished so that it will not be necessary to frame the paintings. It also gives you another place to display your paintings besides just the walls.

Monsoon season is here in Phoenix. It is really clouding up in the afternoons and more humidity. If you have never seen the summer clouds in the desert, they are magnificent. They are the best thing about summer here.

Just a couple of more days to sign up for my newsletter to be in the monthly drawing for a free oil study.
I'll be posting something else tomorrow. I will absolutely be painting, after I take care of my address on my drivers license. Talk to you all later.

Ghost gossip

I had to paint them again. They're too much fun. Today I arranged them so that you could see both of their faces. And don't they look like they're sharing something of grave concern? (sorry - bad pun) Okay. Better stop before I get too silly...

Art by Claudia Hammer "Dancing Quilt" 18"x24" cotton

Dancing Quilt    $1950
I have been working all day on a show that I'm involved in.   This is one of two pieces that I have in a show here in Louisville Kentucky at the Pyro Gallery, opening night is this Friday, July 30, 6-9.   The show is called "Women Imaging Women" it will be up July 29 - Sept 5.   It is a wonderful show and if you are in the area it is worth seeing.

The quilt here is all about dancing, with dance steps around the edges and in the closet are dance outfits for different occasions.   The clothes can be removed and placed on the image on the front.

Angel Of The Eclipse-Selected To Promote Concert-Marina Petro

Angel Of The Eclipse
22x28
Original oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD
I was contacted by Karen Marie Marmer, violinist and manager of the REBEL ensemble for Baroque Music in New York,  (accent on the second syllable, and named after the French Baroque composer, Jean-Féry Rebel) requesting my permission to use the image of my painting, "Angel Of The Eclipse" in the promotional materials for their upcoming concert, "Out Of The Eclipse", being presented in the Fall of 2011.

Karen felt this painting would raise the vibration of the concert. I am humbled and honored that the intention propelling  my artwork (and intuitive work) is being recognized in this way.

Take a few moments, relax, and enjoy the awesome videos featuring this gifted group of musicians.

Excited to send you my second "cat naps" painting!! I think this one is definitely on my list of favorite paintings. A nice large size to get lost in.

I almost named this one - "Where Waldo?" :)

Spotlight on Mark Webster

Mark Webster
Pablo Picasso, the Spanish painter and sculptor (1881-1973) initiated cubism in 1907. This style features multifaceted surfaces of geometrical planes. Mark excels at this.  He's not only a cubist but an incredibly prolific and versatile artist.  A fellow DailyPaintersInternationalArtGallery member, he's well known for his cubism and futurism paintings. And I don't think any other artist on DPIAG does anything quite like what Mark does with this genre. His work is extraordinary although I love his palette knife landscape paintings the most.
Foothill Road

Cape Collins
I also discovered that he's a gifted figurative painter as well.

Mandy with Glass Bowl
"Mark has studied painting at The School of Light and Color in Fair Oaks, CA, and landscape painting in Italy. He has shown in juried exhibitions and in galleries all over the United States. Awards include an HONORABLE MENTION for "The Guitar Player in San Gimignano", and AN EMERGING ARTIST SPECIAL AWARD for "Michael" at the X-Power Gallery in Beverly Hills, CA. 2009 International Art Competition."

Ruth Andre Painting-Hereford

This is the smallest painting I have ever tried to paint. It is a tiny 3x3-inch cow portrait. I visited the Double CC Ranch just over a few hills and this little Hereford had just gone through the line for the annual check and she was happy to be out on her own again. Enjoy!

At the Top of the Road by BECKY JOY

ON TOP OF THE WORLD 5X7 plein air oil $100.

For the last 5 days I've been camping in Zion and at Brian Head, UT. I was wonderful getting away to some cool weather and away from the moving and putting things away.

This painting is one of the plein air paintings that I did in Brian Head. I didn't get very much accomplished as far as painting. I didn't bring the main colors with me that I always use. I had a lot of odd colors to work with. I had cleaned out my bag and thought that I put the right colors in, but what I got instead was a lot of frustration. Anyway, I hiked a lot more than painted and I probably needed that more.

Tomorrow I should get back to work along with some errands that I will be doing. So, I will talk to you all later.

Remember to sign up for my newsletter. There are a few days left this month to be in the drawing for a free painting that I will give away at the end of July.
